We felt we had to include Match.com on FreeDatingSites.net, even though we wouldn’t class it as a free dating site. It is one of the best known dating sites on the web, and one of the oldest too. Match.com has been around since 1995 and they claim to be responsible for more dates than any other online dating service.

Although you will need a paid membership to get the full benefit of the site, they do offer free memberships with access to some of the features. They also regularly offer limited period free trials, during which time it is free to try out everything at the site. Please see below for more detailed information.

How Match.com Works

Fundamentally, Match.com takes a simple approach to online dating. The site has evolved over time and many new features have been added, but the core of the site is still pretty straightforward and the focus is very much on making it as easy as possible for you to find the kind of person you are looking for.

After you have signed up you have to create your dating profile, and this involves inputting a range of information about yourself. There are sections relating to your appearance, your interests, your lifestyle and your values. You can also include what kind of relationship you are looking for, and information on the type of person you would like to meet.

Match.com uses the information in your profile to provide you with matches that are likely to be a good fit for you. The matching system is perhaps not as advanced or scientific as those used by some other sites, such as PerfectMatch.com, but the more simple approach has proved to be hugely successful over the years. It is essentially about putting people together based on what they are looking for and the bottom line is that it seems to work. The site sends you daily matches to review and if you express an interest in any of them, an introduction message is automatically sent.

You can also carry out your own searches at Match.com, and browse through profiles to see if any of them catch your attention. There is a reverse match feature, which will give you a list of members that are looking for someone like you. This can be quite useful if you are struggling to find matches that meet your own requirements. A few other features are included, such as a range of games you can play with other members and instant chat.

What You Get For Free

When free trials are available, for a limited period of time you can use all the features at Match.com with no cost at all. You can sign up for a free membership at any time, which gives you basic access to the site. You will be able to create your profile, search for matches and send winks. This gives you a good opportunity to try the site out to see if you like the way it works and if there are any matches that you might be interested in. You are not under any obligation to upgrade to a paid membership at any point, but you may well decide it is worth it for the extra functionality.

Benefits of Paid Membership

The main benefit of paid membership is that you are able to send messages to other members, and receive replies. You get access to all the features, but this is obviously the most important one. You can use the internal e-mail system and instant messaging is also available if you want to chat in real time. With a paid membership you’ll also be able to remove matches that you are not interested in from your search results, see who has viewed your profile, and receive notifications when someone reads a message you’ve sent.

Is it Worth It?

Many free dating sites are very, very good and paying for a dating site is by no means essential. It is perfectly possible that you will meet that someone special through a free site without ever having to spend a penny. With that being said, paying to join a site like Match.com does have advantages and it is fair to say you will probably improve your chances of meeting someone by doing so. It is certainly worth signing up as a free member and getting a feel for the site, as you don’t have to upgrade to a paid membership but you might like what you see and want to give it a go.

Match.com is fairly expensive if you sign up for a single month ($41.99 in the United States, costs vary elsewhere), but you can get better value by subscribing for several months. The best value is the six month membership (which works out at $20.99 per month), and this also comes with a guarantee; if you don’t find someone special in six months then you will get another six months free. We think that is a great offer, and we do believe that Match.com offer good value for money.
